KARIBUNI!
This means WELCOME in Kiswahili.
The German-Tanzanian-Friendship-Society (in short: DETAF) is an association of German and Tanzanian people in Germany who want to enhance friendship and exchange between our two peoples. The name of the association in Kiswahili is: CHAMA CHA URAFIKI KATI YA WAJERUMANI NA WATANZANIA.
On the following pages you will find information about our association itself, about our project partners in Tanzania and how you can support them. Moreover, DETAF is sending volunteers to projects in Tanzania and we offer a wide range of information for people interested in Tanzania.
We have just finished the translation of our website into English language. If you find some unacceptable errors in language, please contact us. Your help is most welcome.
Who is DETAF?
The German-Tanzanian-Friendship-Society (in short: DETAF) is a non-profit organization for encouragement of international understanding. Tanzanian and German people are linked due to a temporarily joint history. This is one of the reasons why we want to deepen the friendship between our two peoples and to facilitate the scientific, intellectual, cultural, economic and social ties between Tanzania and Germany.
What is DETAF doing?
We organize educational events in Germany, foster the contact with Tanzanians and friends of Tanzania and organize a German-Tanzanian information service. We support the work of our Project Partners in Tanzania and procure projects and partnerships. Another important area of our work is the placement of interns into Tanzanian projects. Moreover, we counsel hosts who want to invite friends from Tanzania and people who go to Tanzania for a longer period.
Our Organization
DETAF was founded in November 1986 by German and Tanzanian people and has since then developed further and further. People interested in more information about our activities in the past can read our chronicle and in the archive.
Our Members
Members of DETAF are Germans with interest in Tanzania and Tanzanians who live, work or study in Germany. Many of our members have been working in former times in Tanzania for developing organizations but we are open for all people who are interested in the German-Tanzanian friendship.
